EMPLOYEES AT THE SOUTH TRAINING CENTER BEGIN WEEKLY SIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES PAID FOR BY THE STATE OF GEORGIA

Sign Language Class

Starting Wednesday, July 11, 2018, employees at the South Training Center began undergoing emergency communications sign language class at their facility.   The instruction will enable the staff to communicate basic and emergency information to hearing impaired individuals who received services at the facility.

The classes were made possible by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities' (DBHDD) Office of Deaf Services & the Office of Human Resources and Learning.   Both of these organizations developed a collaboration with the Georgia Center of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing to make on-site training available to community-based service providers.

The South Training Center staff will attend weekly classes to reach the Survivor Plus Fluency Level within 12 months.
