Commissioner Hausmann Named to House Commission on Transit Governance and Funding | Print |

Georgia House Speaker David Ralston has named Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann (District 1) to serve on the House Commission on Transit Governance & Funding. Commissioner Hausmann will join other members of the commission in studying Georgia’s transit needs and analyzing ways for the state to adequately plan and provide for those needs.

In a statement, Speaker Ralston noted:

Transit is becoming more and more important to Georgia’s future. From congestion relief to economic development, a robust transit network across our state will have long-term benefits for our citizens. Situations like the recent I-85 rebuild have clearly demonstrated the importance of transit to our state and its economy. The House is proud to lead on this initiative to develop actionable, meaningful solutions.”

Commissioner Hausmann said, “It is imperative that the state of Georgia look at transit as a viable option for congestion relief. A well-managed transportation system will spur job growth and prosperity, and continue to keep Georgia as the leading state in which to do business. I look forward to serving on this commission to explore transportation alternatives for all of Georgia.”

Commissioner Hausmann has focused on transportation and transit initiatives as a priority for Fulton County, and was recently named to the Transportation Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties. She played a leadership role in organizing a site-visit by Fulton County Commissioners, Mayors and transportation leaders in January to study the transit system of Plano, Texas.

Fulton County is one of the original MARTA counties, and has supported Georgia’s largest transit agency since it was formed. Fulton County is currently collaborating with its cities and the Atlanta Regional Commission on a transit study to be completed later this year.

Commissioner Hausmann has served on the Fulton County Board of Commissioners since 2011. She came to Fulton County with an extensive record of public service on the Fulton County School Board, the Johns Creek City Council, and numerous civic and government boards.

District One is located in northeast Fulton that includes Johns Creek and portions of the cities of Alpharetta, Roswell, and Sandy Springs east of Georgia 400.
