Fulton County’s Neighborhood Union Provides Nutrition Education Everyday | Print |

Health Center educates WIC clients on the importance of eating healthy

In March, public health centers across the nation, promoted nutrition education to their WIC (Women, Infant and Children) clients to encourage them to eat healthy and make better food choices by providing them with nutrition education to help them understand importance of nutrition in a child’s development.  The Neighborhood Union Health Center, located in historic Vine City, provides nutrition classes and one-on-one sessions to WIC clients to help them raise healthy children.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Redevelopment of Fulton County Youth Focused Facility | Print |

Commissioner Joan P. Garner, Fulton County Commissioner for District 6, Zachary Williams, County Manager Patrice A. Harris, Health Services Director and Troy White, Housing and Human Services Director led a groundbreaking ceremony on March 27, 2012 to officially mark the start of redevelopment of the Oak Hill Child, Adolescent and Family Center located at 2805 Metropolitan Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30315.

The Fulton County Workforce Preparation and Employment System –Workforce Investment Act Board (FCWPES-WIA) will meet Thursday, March 29, 2012, beginning at 9:30 A.M.  The meeting will be held in the sixth floor conference room of the Central Fulton Library, One Margaret Mitchell Square, Atlanta, Georgia 30303.

World TB Day is March 24

In recognition of World TB Day, the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness will sponsor a Tuberculosis Awareness Event on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Aldredge Health Center located at 99 Jesses Hill Jr. Drive in Atlanta.  County residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to gain valuable information about tuberculosis.

Fulton County Health Services Encourages Residents to “Get Their Plate in Shape” | Print |

March is National Nutrition Month® when everyone is encouraged to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.  According to the CDC, approximately 16% of all children in the United States are overweight. Citizens can fight obesity by making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.  Fulton County Health Services encourages everyone to think about what goes on their plate or in their bowl.

Fulton County Breaks Ground for Renovation of Youth-focused Health Facility | Print |

Commissioner Joan P. Garner, District 6, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and Fulton County Health Services will hold a ground breaking ceremony Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 11:00am at 2805 Metropolitan Parkway, SW, Atlanta, GA 30315. Oak Hill Child, Adolescent and Family Center which focuses on reducing health disparities among children and youth by emphasizing health, prevention and wellness, early childhood development, nutrition, learning, fitness, and youth employment.  Reducing the negative impact of childhood asthma and childhood obesity will also be emphasized in the programming planned for this campus.

The Fulton County Marshal’s Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session April 17, 2012, at 7:00 p.m.  The session will be conducted in the Fulton County Justice Center Building, Courtroom 1A, located at 185 Central Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia 30303.
