Fulton County Approves Resolution to Increase Efforts to Reduce Asthma-Related Disparities | Print |

At its January 4th Regular Meeting, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution sponsored by Vice Chair Emma I. Darnell directing the County Manager and Director of Health Services to develop an Asthma Control Action Plan to address asthma-related disparities in Fulton County. According to the American Lung Association, nearly 1 out of every 12 residents of Fulton County suffers from asthma.

Low cost glasses to be available for seniors in East Point

Fulton County and East Point NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities) will host a Vision Clinic for senior residents of East Point over the age of 60. The Vision Clinic will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012, at 9:00 AM at Peachtree City Christian Church (formerly East Point  Christian Church ) located at 1706 Washington Avenue in East Point.

Cold weather is the primary forecast for local weather.  According to local weather experts, the month of January is the coldest month in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County.  Fulton County Cooperative Extension wants to encourage residents who use space heaters to keep their homes warm to pay close attention to safety tips when using the equipment.

Fulton Fresh Receives $25,000 Grant from the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation | Print |

Grant will be used to fund expansion of mobile farmer’s market distribution route into additional urban food deserts

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners voted today to match a $25,000 grant received from the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation to expand the fresh food distribution and nutritional education services provided by the Fulton Fresh Mobile Farmer’s Market.  The expansion will increase distribution locations from four sites to eight sites in 2012 to residents living in areas designated a food deserts. The Fulton Fresh Mobile Farmer’s Market is operated by Fulton County Cooperative Extension and is an innovative way to address health disparities and improve nutrition education in low-income neighborhoods with high rates of diet-related illnesses and insufficient access to grocery stores with fresh food.

Fulton County Police Hosts Graduation for Gang Resistance Education & Training Program Graduation | Print |

Learning life skills and how to avoid giving into peer pressure avoidance are just a few things middle school students learn from participating in the Fulton County Police Department’s Gang Resistance Education Program.

This Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Renaissance Middle School located at 7155 Hall Road in Fairburn, Georgia students participating in the initiative will graduate from the 13-week program.

Scheduled on the Wednesday December 21,2011, Board meeting agenda, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners will discuss a proposed county-wide redistricting plan, based on changes in Fulton County communities over the past decade as reported by the 2010 Census. Citizens have been able to participate in this important process through opportunities for public input.

Fulton County Creates Economic Development Division | Print |

Division Expected to Help Attract, Retain and Grow Jobs Throughout Fulton County

On Wednesday, December 7, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to establish the Fulton County Division of Economic Development. The resolution, sponsored by  Chairman John Eaves, Commissioners Joan Garner and Liz Hausmann includes the development of an administrative structure and proposes an initial annual operating budget of $750,000 for FY2012. The Division will be responsible for coordinating all services and activities associated with Fulton County policy and economic development initiatives.
