Amerigroup Foundation designates Karen Russell as “Healthy Hero”

Karen Russell has spent the past 18 years helping others, especially women and children in need. For the past five years, she has worked with underinsured and uninsured women to provide information on health screenings and referrals for the Fulton County Women’s Health Program.  The Amerigroup Foundation recognized Ms. Russell’s Ms. Russell’s commitment and dedication by designating her as a 2010 “Healthy Hero”.

Recipients of the “Healthy Hero” Award have a donation presented in their name to their chosen charity.   On behalf of Ms. Russell, the Amerigroup Foundation presented a $1,000 contribution to The Breast Health Connections of Georgia, a statewide coalition dedicated to increasing public awareness about breast cancer and the importance of good breast health.

Breast Cancer is the leading cancer among women in Georgia and the second leading cause of cancer deaths. The Fulton County Women’s Health Program provides eligible women with Pap Tests, Breast Exams, Women’s Health Education and Mammogram Referrals.
