Fulton County Cooperative Extension Joins Atlanta Mission to Celebrate Planting of Urban Garden | Print |

Fulton County Cooperative Extension expanded its inclusion with establishing community gardens by joining the Atlanta Mission to celebrate the opening of the Atlanta Urban Garden.

“We are pleased to see the addition of this garden to the more than100 community gardens in the county,” stated Menia Chester, Director of Fulton County Cooperative Extension. “The good that this garden will produce exceeds the benefits of fresh vegetables.”

The garden will provide healthy food options, vocational training and therapy to more than 500 homeless and recovering men served daily through the Atlanta Mission’s men’s facility.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension has provided technical expertise and education regarding what to plant garden and when to plant. They will conduct a four-hour gardening workshop on April 11, 2011 for the Mission to learn more about urban gardening.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension hosts monthly classes on topics such as gardening, diabetes and financial management. Classes are held in various locations throughout the county.  Phone (404) 332-2400 for more information.
