Fulton County Department of Information Technology Wins National Award | Print |

For the third year in a row, Fulton County has been named among the top counties in the nation for its use of effective information and communications technology, thanks to the efforts of the Fulton County Department of Information Technology.

Fulton County ranked 5th among large counties (population over 500,000) throughout the United States in the 2013 Digital Counties Survey.  The survey, conducted by the Center for Digital Government and Digital Communities program, in partnership with the National Association of Counties, identifies best technology practices among counties nationwide, regardless of size, in four population categories.

"Counties across the country are aligning technology initiatives with executive strategic priorities to provide vital cost savings and administrative efficiencies," said NACo Executive Director Matthew D. Chase. "The Digital Counties Survey identifies best practices and innovative uses of technology crucial with today's constrained budgets to maintaining and even improving service levels."

Ryan Fernandes, Fulton County’s Chief Information Officer, said, “To be named the Top 5 IT operation in the nation is quite an honor.  All of the recognition goes to my staff who I consider the best and brightest.  With the support of our County Board of Commissioners we continue to leverage technology to uncover efficiencies and improve County services. Taxpayers are the real beneficiaries of our success.”

Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards received the award on behalf of the County at the NACo Conference in Texas last week. “We are not where we should be in the area of technology, but we are constantly making efforts to get there.  I am very pleased with Mr. Fernandes and the entire IT staff for using the resources they have to achieve this most honored recognition.  We are committed to continuously upgrading our systems to achieve the best status.”
