Fulton County Police Teach Final G.R.E.A.T. Class of the Year | Print |

On Thursday, December 19th students at Feldwood Elementary School in South Fulton listened attentively and asked questions with excitement while attending their final class of the Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program sponsored by the Fulton County Police Department.

Corporal Maureen Smith and Officer Adrian Massey taught this morning’s class wrapping up a 6 week- long program that teaches kids life skills that help them avoid using delinquent behavior to solve problems.

The program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence and gang membership for children in the years immediately before the prime ages for introduction into gangs and delinquent behavior.

“The kids enjoy the class.   We have been able to help them to realize that good decision making is key early in life.   We use real-life examples when discussing what would be the best decisions for them to make.   Then we ask them if they could have possibly made a better decision,” said Officer Massey.

Feldwood’s G.R.E.A.T. graduation is scheduled for January 9, 2014 around 10:00 a.m.   Parents and family members are invited to attend and the program’s guest speaker will be District 7 Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards.
