Dr. Gabriel Morley Appointed Director of Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library System | Print |

At its March 16 meeting, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners confirmed the appointment of Dr. Gabriel Morley as Director of the Atlanta-Fulton County Library System, effective April 20.

On March 3, the Board of Commissioners approved the Library Board of Trustees’ selection of Dr. Morley as the sole finalist for the position.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Morley to the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System. He impressed the Library Board of Trustees with his vision for our library system,” said Stephanie Moody, Chairman of the Library Board of Trustees. “Under his leadership I expect that employees, patrons and the community will see the future and importance of libraries in a new light.”

Morley is currently director of the Calcasieu Parish Public Library System in Lake Charles, LA.

“I’m excited to have this opportunity to work in such a vibrant library system,” Morley said. “The library is a laboratory for ideas. I look forward to working with the library board, the staff and the community. Fulton County has a bright future and we want to ensure the library does its part to help foster that success.”

Prior to becoming the library director in Calcasieu Parish in 2012, Morley was director of university libraries at Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. Before that, he was the director of a three-county public library system in southwest Mississippi. He began his library career at the Washington Parish (LA) Library System.

In addition to a master’s degree in library science, Morley holds a doctorate in adult education from The University of Southern Mississippi. He specializes in informal and non-formal learning. His book, Building Workforce Literacy in Libraries:  Connecting Communities with Opportunities, will be published this fall.
