South Fulton citizens expressed their concerns about rising crime in their communities during a joint Public Safety Town Hall Meeting hosted by District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington Jr., and District 6 Commissioner Emma I. Darnell.   The forum at the Southwest Arts Center on Thursday, January 12, 2017 featured a presentation from Juvenile Court Chief Judge Willie Lovett Jr.  Chief Judge Lovett provided insight on Juvenile Court operations and the laws surrounding the detention of juveniles.

Citizens and local community leaders passionately expressed their concerns about juvenile crime. They presented their individual solutions for reducing crime in their neighborhoods. However, most agreed that the long-term solution remained, which requires neighbors to look out for each other and provide counsel and friendship to all youth in their communities beginning from early childhood through the teen years.

Several Atlanta elected officials also attended the meeting.  They included City Council President Caesar C. Mitchell and Council members Michael Julian Bond and Kwanza Hall.
