Fulton County and the Atlanta Hawks to Unveil Renovated Creel Park Courts | Print |

The Atlanta Hawks Foundation and the Fulton County Parks and Recreation Department will unveil the significant improvements made to the basketball courts at Creel Park in the City of South Fulton. The official ribbon cutting for the improvements is scheduled for Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Creel Park; 2775 Creel Rd., South Fulton, Georgia 30349. The project is one of several community-focused court dedications completed in partnership with the Atlanta Hawks and Fulton County Parks and Recreation which have included previous two other previous makeovers for courts at Cliftondale and Welcome All Parks in South Fulton.

"The new basketball courts at Creel Park help us build strong children, because recreational facilities are not just a place to play," said Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chairman John Eaves. "They provide our youth with a safe space to also learn and grow interacting with other young people."

"We're honored to continue our court renovation partnership with Fulton County," said David Lee, executive vice president, Hawks external affairs and executive director, Atlanta Hawks Foundation. "Our shared commitment to build the community through basketball is boldly executed at Creel Park, our third location in Fulton and 11th overall. We're delighted more kids, coaches and communities will benefit from this investment and programming for years to come."

Through this effort, the Hawks have contributed top-shelf improvements that will transform the courts into state-of-the-art and top notch facilities. The Atlanta Hawks Court Renovation Program builds and renovates basketball courts in underprivileged neighborhoods throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area each year. At each location, the Hawks and CBA Sports put down a new playing surface, install new backboards, rims, nets and fencing, as well as make any other needed repairs.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for the Department of Parks and Recreation but more importantly, for the citizens and community we serve," said Tony Phillips, Fulton County Director of Parks and Recreation. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Atlanta Hawks as we strive to provide the best possible programs and facilities for Fulton County residents."

The official unveiling event will include representatives from Fulton County Government and the Atlanta Hawks. Special guests include the Atlanta Hawks Cheerleaders and Harry the Hawk as young people on hand will be treated to interactive games.

"More than 160 years ago, Frederick Douglass said, 'it is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.' He was right then and his pronouncement is just as true today," Chairman Eaves added. "In that spirit, we applaud the contributions of the Atlanta Hawks to help the County do its part to ensure that our young people stay on a path to be productive citizens."
