6.20.18 teacher of the year

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners recognized Allison Kerley Townsend, the 2019 Georgia Teacher of the Year, with a Proclamation at its June 20, 2018 board meeting.

Ms. Townsend, a third grade teacher at Barnwell Elementary School in Johns Creek cited by the state for her use of social media as a learning tool, was presented with a full board proclamation proclaiming June 20, 2018 as “Ms. Allison Kerley Townsend 2019 Georgia Teacher of the Year Day” to honor her work as an educator and her efforts on behalf of young people as she begins an additional role as an advocate for public education throughout the state.

“We are proud of Mrs. Townsend and her dedication to bringing out the best in our students in Fulton County,” says District 1 Commissioner Liz Hausmann, the author of the proclamation honoring Mrs. Townsend.   “Her work should serve as an example of the innovation that can inspire young people and improve the educational experience for students.”

Georgia's Teacher of the Year Program is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education and spotlights the teaching profession and recognizes outstanding public school teachers at the local and state levels. As Teacher of the Year, Townsend will represent Georgia teachers by speaking to communities about the teaching profession and potentially conducting workshops and programs for educators.
