Fats, Roots, Rag, Oils, & Grease | Print |

fryer oil can be recycled, reused, or dried up with cat litter and placed in the trashThis program is designed to provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to help prevent sewer clogs and backups in your home, business, or community.

Cooking oils, condiments such as salad dressings, peanut butter, and sandwich spreads, dairy products, and meat juices fall into the fats, oils and grease category. When disposed of down kitchen drains and garbage disposals, these items can cause blockages in sewer pipes. Grease-related blockages can cause the sewer to back up into your home or business through sinks, drains, and toilets. Cleaning and plumbing repairs associated with these back ups can be very expensive and disruptive.

Whether you're a business that generates FOG or a resident, you're encouraged to do your part to help prevent sewer blockages. By properly disposing of fats, oils, and grease you will benefit your home, your pocketbook, and your community.

Ask yourself, is it flushable?

So how can you dispose of FOG properly?

  • Place food scraps and unwanted leftovers into the trash
  • Allow cooking oil and meat drippings to cool before scraping into the trash
  • Large amounts of liquid FOG can be soaked up with kitty litter and placed in the trash
