Aviation Community Cultural Center Grand Opening Rescheduled | Print |

The Grand Opening of the Fulton County Aviation Community Cultural Center (ACCC) slated for May 15, 2014, and related weekend activities are being rescheduled for an early summer date.   The new date will allow time for exterior and interior cosmetic work to be completed which includes placement of artwork in the galleries so that citizens may receive the full benefit of all that the Center has to offer on opening day.  The following related weekend activities are also being re-scheduled: Open House (Friday, May 16), Family Day, Panel Discussion of Black Aviation Airline Pioneers, and Paper Airplane Launch and Race (Saturday, May 17).

The final pre-opening event scheduled for May 13 will still be held. The Southwest Arts Center and Atlanta Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen Inc. will present the motion picture Red Tails a 2012 American war film produced by Lucasfilm stars Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr. The film is a fictionalized portrayal of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African-American United States Air Forces (USAAF) servicemen during World War II. The Screening will be followed by a Question & Answer session with historian Zellie Rainey Orr and some Tuskegee Airmen at 6:30 p.m.   The screening will be held at the Southwest Arts Center Performance Theater, located at 915 New Hope Road, Atlanta, GA 30331.
