Fulton County Residents Invited to Join the Zero Weight Gain Holiday Challenge | Print |

Cooperative Extension sponsored blog provides weight loss encouragement

Weight control is possible during the holiday season. The Zero Weight Gain Holiday Challenge Blog will show you how. From the Monday before Thanksgiving until the first full week of January, you will receive 14 different tips about how you can eat more wisely and be more active.

“This program is designed to help people recognize and control their eating during the holidays,” says Menia Chester, Director of Fulton County Cooperative Extension. “We received feedback from 2013 Challenge participants that the blog messages kept them aware and focused of their goal of not gaining weight over the holidays.”

Zero Weight Gain Holiday Challenge blog topics will include:

  • How to manage your environment to reduce overeating and promote physical activity.
  • How to make better food choices when eating at home or away from home.
  • How to make physical activity during this busy time of year easier.

According to the University of Georgia (UGA), seventy-eight percent of last year’s participants reported that they normally gained weight over the holidays. However, at the end of last year’s challenge, 56 percent did not gain any weight at all and 22% said they gained only a little weight. The majority of participants planned to use the information to help them control their weight after the holidays.

“Developing healthy habits to control weight gain is only a click away,” says Chester.
